Ryan Reynolds is one of the most popular and loved celebrities in Hollywood and on social media.
He and his wife, Blake Lively, are constantly cracking jokes about their lives and teasing one another. However, the pair is very private about their three kids and their private affairs.
It is very easy for fans to see how strong the love between Reynolds and Lively is and see them as great parents to their kids. They go back to 2011 when they started dating and eventually married in September 2012.
So what was Reynolds doing before he found his beau, and who did he date? According to a post by Insider, Reynolds dating and marriage history includes some of the biggest names in pop culture and entertainment, from Rachel Leigh Cook to Kristen Johnson, Sandra Bullock, and Scarlett Johansson.
Here’s a look into the stars that he dated before he settled down with Lively.
Reynolds Was Engaged To Alanis Morissette
Reynolds and Alanis Morissette were once one of the A-list couples in Hollywood. The lovers reportedly met at actress Drew Barrymore’s birthday party in 2002 and started dating soon after.
They quickly became known for their passionate and romantic moments at events, and on red carpets, so it was no surprise to their fans when Reynolds proposed in 2004.
Morissette, who is well known for her 1995 album “Jagged Little Pill,” said in an interview to People at the time, “I feel so loved by him, in a trampoline kind of way. He’s like a soul brother to me, except that I want to jump his bones.”
It came as a shock to many of their fans and other celebrities when Reynolds and Morissette ended their engagement and split up just a few years later, in 2007. In total, they were together for just over five years and engaged for three. The two never spoke about what led to the end of their relationship.
Reynolds Used To Be Married To Scarlett Johansson
Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson began their relationship in 2007 and got married a year later.
Their romance was very private, as the couple hardly took photographs together or appeared at events together, neither did they speak about one another and their relationship in interviews and press.
Sadly, they eventually announced their divorce in December 2010 in a joint statement that affirmed their continued love and kindness for each other.
Although Reynolds and Johansson have never revealed what went wrong during the two years they were married, Johansson did drop some hints in an interview with Vanity fair. In the interview, she spoke about how young she was when she got married and said, “I didn’t really have an understanding of marriage. Maybe I kind of romanticized it, I think, in a way.”
After their divorce was finalized in 2011, Reynolds jumped right back into the dating scene with first Sandra Bullock and then Agnes Fischer.
Reynolds Romance Spree In 2011
Once Reynolds and Johansson’s divorce was finalized in 2011, he allegedly went through a couple of flings and relationships. Several rumors claimed that the first of these was with actress Sandra Bullock.
The duo acted in the film “The Proposal” together, and their magical on-screen chemistry led to many off-screen rumors about them being in a romantic relationship. They eventually debunked the rumors at an interview on the Golden Globes red carpet in 2011, but many fans and entertainment pages have claimed otherwise.
After Bullock came German model Agnes Fischer. Reynolds and Fischer were photographed getting close and cozy in Cape Town, South Africa. They were seen walking together near the set of “Safe House,” which Reynolds was filming with Denzel Washington at the time. They were never confirmed to be dating and were only seen together for a few months.
Reynolds Dated Charlize Theron
Reynold’s final stint in the dating world before he met and married Lively was with actress Charlize Theron.
Their union was also private until Reynolds was seen leaving the actress’ home in Malibu. The two dated for the summer and split after two months due to a difference in priorities.
A source told US Weekly that, "He only wanted something casual, but she's in a rush to settle down, have kids and start a family since she's getting older."
The source also mentioned that Theron was not happy about their breakup at all and although she knew deep down that it wouldn't have worked, she was still "pretty bummed out about it all."
