Ted Kaczynski, the "Unabomber," was found dead in his prison cell over the weekend, reportedly by suicide.

At the time of his death, the 81-year-old Kaczynski was battling late-stage cancer.

The New York Times reports that his death is being investigated as a suicide, and no foul play is suspected.

Kaczynski was infamous for murdering three people and injuring up to 23 more during a bombing spree from 1975 to 1995.

His arrest in 1996 followed the publication of his manifesto in The Washington Post, which led his brother, David, and sister-in-law, Linda Patrick, to recognize his writing and turn him in.

He was arrested in his remote cabin in Lincoln, Montana, and faced numerous charges, to which he eventually pleaded guilty.

Kaczynski was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole, avoiding the death penalty.

He had previously attempted suicide while awaiting trial and spent over two decades in a supermax prison in Colorado, known as the "Alcatraz of the Rockies."

In 2021, he was moved to a medical facility in North Carolina due to his cancer diagnosis, where he reportedly took his own life.

His legacy includes the largest and most expensive FBI search operation in history, which ended only when his manifesto was recognized by family members.
