She struggled with her decision to commit.

Raven, who married Miranda Maday in a secret ceremony in 2020, revealed that fear almost prevented them from getting hitched in an interview with Noir Online.

“It was kind of a self-inflicted, old way of thinking that the black community would be mad that I was dating a white person,” she told Noir Online during a joint interview with her wife.

Maday chimed in and shared that she had “no idea” that her partner was feeling that way. Raven added that her fears were most likely due to her own insecurities about being a woman of color.

“I just caught people staring at me all the time. It felt weird but then again, it wasn’t really happening,” the actress said.

Raven claims some of these emotions stem from growing up in the spotlight.

“I think I was just carrying burdens that happened in the '90s and '80s that weren’t really working for the now.”

Maday has been credited with helping Raven crack "the code" of happiness. The actress said she no longer worries about what “the black community” has to say about her relationship.
