Joshua Bassett is getting candid about his past experiences with sexual abuse.
Bassett’s three new songs “Crisis,” “Secret” and “Set Me Free” tell the story of his life around the time of the “Drivers License” drama involving Olivia Rodrigo.
He revealed it is now his time to tell his side of the story.
"I experienced sexual abuse a lot in my childhood,” he said. “I didn't remember that until last year, which is pretty insane. I buried it so far.”
Basset explained the sexual abuse routinely occurred when he was a teen at the hands of a much ‘older man.’
“I wasn't able to see it for what it was at the time,” he admitted.
“Set Me Free,” one of the three new songs recently released, is about processing the experience.
Bassett deems it “an anthem for me and the sort of people who’ve held pain and power over me my whole life.
“You’ve taken so much from me, but you don’t get to take all of me,” he exclaimed.
