A missing gay right’s activist was found in a landfill in Florida.

Jorge Diaz-Johnston, 54, was last seen alive on January 3.

He had been instrumental in legalizing same-sex marriage in Florida.

In 2004, he and five other couples sued the Miami-Dade County clerk’s office.

The clerk’s office was trying to prevent their marriage.

His death was confirmed by former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz.

Diaz is actually the brother of the late activist.

He called his brother “such a special gift to this world.”

Officials are currently treating Diaz-Johnston’s death as a homicide.
