John McEnroe is opening up about his unlikely career choice.

The tennis legend is the narrator of the coming-of-age series, “Never Have I Ever.”

His role as an advisor to the lead character came as a shock to many, including McEnroe.

The 63-year-old recently opened up about being the voice of the show, giving credit to creator Mindy Kaling.

The retired athlete admitted he never imagined he would play such a role.

“I got to credit Mindy Kaling,” he said of the unusual choice.

McEnroe also revealed that Kaling got the idea to make him the voice from her personal life.

He shared that Kaling’s father was apparently a big tennis star while she was growing up.

He described the experience of being the show’s narrator as “gratifying.”
