Daisy Ridley stars as Gertrude Ederle in “Young Woman and the Sea.”

The swimming champion won the gold medal in the 1924 Olympics.

Two years later, she became the first woman to swim across the English Channel.

Ridley has extensive physical training due to her role in “Star Wars.”

However, Ridley said that she did not – and “will never” swim the English Channel.

She said that she did swim around 26 miles for the film, however.

“Last January, when I started training, I could barely do 20 meters in the pool,” she said.

She said the role made her a “much better swimmer than I ever, ever thought I could have been.”

The film is expected to hit Disney+ later this year.
