Celebrated author Anne Rice died earlier today, aged 80. She is survived by her son, author Christopher Travis Rice.

Anne Rice is best known for her gothic and erotic literature, including the novel “Interview with the Vampire”.

The book was made into a movie with an eponymous name, starring the likes of Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.

Another of Rice’s books, “Queen of the Damned” was also made into a movie, starring and dedicated to the late music sensation, Aaliyah.

Anne was married for 41 years to poet and painter Stan Rice till he passed of brain cancer in 2002. Her son, Christopher is also a bestselling author.

Christopher took to Facebook and Instagram to inform Anne Rice’s fans of her passing, due to complications resulting from a stroke.

Fans were quick to post their condolences to the Rice family, calling Anne’s life “well-lived”.

Christopher also added, “Anne will be interred in our family's mausoleum at Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans in a private ceremony.”

For all her fans and readers, a public event will take place in New Orleans next year, to celebrate her life and legacy. RIP, Anne Rice.
