Ashley Judd penned a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Naomi Judd.
It was reported that Naomi took her own life earlier this month.
Ashley Judd wrote an op-ed about the value of motherhood for USA Today.
“This Sunday is abruptly, shockingly, my first Mother’s Day without my mama,” Ashley wrote.
She said that she is also filled with “incandescent rage” over her mother’s death.
“My mother was stolen from me by the disease of mental illness,” she wrote.
She explained that her “grief isn’t tidy” and that she is “awash in the painful specifics.”
She pointed out the statistics of the women who pass away each year from maternal death.
“Motherhood should always be a choice,” Judd wrote.
