Megyn Kelly Settlement Deal Stalled Over Securing Her Silence, Not Money

Megyn Kelly's settlement talks with NBC are yet to be resolved but the sticking point is not money — it's her silence.

Sources close to the discussions tell The Blast that is expected to get paid everything that is coming to her, per the terms of her original contract. We're told Kelly could walk away with about $37 million in salary and bonuses once all is said and done.

But the negotiations to sign the deal have stalled, our sources say, because NBC wants her exit agreement to include specific language which bars her from saying anything at all after the documents are signed.

Specifically, we're told execs are worried Kelly could speak up once again about NBC's handling of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and Ronan Farrow's reporting of it. She previously spoke out on her show and directly contradicted comments made by NBC News chairman Andy Lack.

In addition, our sources say Megyn Kelly is also aware of internal information about Tom Brokaw and the way the network handled the sexual harassment claims against him and others.

We're told NBC is keen on making sure she doesn't speak out on any of these issues.

Megyn Kelly was ousted from her gig hosting the last hour of "TODAY" after she defended the idea of dressing in blackface for Halloween. Our sources point out that if the network was so upset over her comments, it would have fired her immediately and would not consider paying her out what she is owed in the contract.

In fact, our sources say, they don't believe NBC is really as outraged over the comments as they have said publicly. Considering what information could come from Megyn speaking her mind on the other subject, the focus for NBC purely is to end this with Megyn, with as much assurance of her silence as possible.
