"Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood" star Ray J has reached a deal to end a $30 million lawsuit filed by his former business partner in a case that became best known for the judge who quoted his song lyrics in a ruling.
On August 27, docs were filed in the case revealing Ray J and his former partner reached a settlement on all issues. The docs note that the two were able to finally end the battle during mediation, bringing an end to the months-long court fight.
Earlier this year, Ray J was hit with a $30 million dollar lawsuit by a guy named Jean Paul over an alleged business deal gone south.
The lawsuit claimed that back in 2015, Jean and Ray J were in talks to launch a business to market electric scooter bikes. The singer has been known for using electric scooter bikes for years.
The two allegedly agreed that Ray J would be an investor and would endorse the product. Jean Paul started to process of getting the business launched until he claims he found out Ray J went behind his back and launched his own competing electric scooter bike company.
Ray J demanded the case be dismissed and claimed the two never even had a written agreement.
The case got a little interesting when Judge Federico A. Moreno quoted Ray J's "One Wish" as part a ruling in the case.
Judge Moreno said, “If Plaintiffs had one wish, Counts I, IV, V and VII would never end, they would just begin. But wait a minute, Plaintiffs need to let it go, because a photo is not a formal invite to be bound by terms of a contract, much less satisfy a statue that requires a writing.”
The judge’s conclusion is a direct lift of Ray J’s lyric: “If I had one wish, we would be best friends, love would never end, it would just begin.”
