Hollywood mega producer Joel Silver is in a bitter war with the family of his former personal assistant after the woman's family accused him of being responsible for her death during a lavish vacation with Jen Aniston and Justin Theroux.
According to documents obtained by The Blast, the "Lethal Weapon" producer says 28-year-old Carmel Musgrove's death was caused by her own negligence after her body was discovered floating in a lagoon near the Four Seasons in Bora Bora back in 2015.
Musgrove's family sued Silver, his production company and his personal chef Martin Herrold claiming they were responsible for her death after allegedly facilitating her with drugs and alcohol during the honeymoon celebration of now-split Aniston and Theroux.
Her family also accused Silver of overworking the girl. Local authorities determined Musgrove had drowned due to overconsumption of alcohol and cocaine, plus fatigue and heat stroke.
But according to the documents filed on April 19, "The Matrix" producer says Musgrove's actions are what caused her death, insisting he played no part. He argues that although he hasn't yet completed a thorough investigation of the facts and circumstances around her death, he believes his former personal assistant did not exercise "ordinary care" for herself while on the tropical isle.
Silver also claims that because the death technically occurred on a work trip, the lawsuit is barred from seeking damages against him personally.
