YouTube Star Lands Prank Show With Jimmy Kimmel After Inventing Glitter Bomb for Porch Pirates

By Gary Trock

YouTube star Mark Rober is about to take his pranking prowess to a whole new level after catching the attention of Jimmy Kimmel from his hilarious and inventive videos. Rober, a former NASA engineer, shot to fame last year after one of his inventions went viral. He concocted a revenge device for people who stole packages off people's doorsteps during the busy holiday season, aka Porch Pirates.

His device released a spray of ultra-fine glitter when opened by the nefarious gift-stealer, which also included a camera to capture the action. He has since amassed almost 10 million subscribers on his YouTube channel.

For 2019, Rober has kicked things up a notch for a new and improved Glitter Bomb Trap 2.0. First off, he's enlisted the help of Macaulay Culkin.

Some of the upgrades include 2 bottles of enhanced "fart spray," 4 phones with GPS trackers that automatically upload their video to a cloud server and Rober is now using biodegradable glitter in the main bomb.

There are also some cool sound effects added to the package, included a countdown to nothing and police scanner chatter that makes it seem like the cops are on the way to retrieve the package.

The Glitter Bomb Trap 2.0 was a huge hit, and he even appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to discuss his new findings, as well as his upcoming show with Kimmel's production company, Kimmelot.

"I am going to produce a show with you, you're starring in it, with Discovery," Kimmel explained about Rober's upcoming show, "Revenge of the Nerd."

Rober said the show will be about "pranking people who violate social norms," such as stealing packages off front porches.

A release from Discovery explains:

"Rober and his team of 'Avengineers' will attempt to right the world of wrong-doing. Executive producers Jimmy Kimmel and Mark Rober will scour the planet to catch troublemakers in the act – seeking revenge in the form of over-the-top pranks that will all be captured by hidden cameras."

Even though he'll be inflicting some karmic justice on people, Rober also uses his genius for other things, like saving the world. Last year he teamed up with other YouTube stars in an effort to plant 20 million trees by January 1, 2020.

Rober and YouTube star Jimmy Donaldson linked up with Discovery to unveil their movement, titled #TeamTrees.

In order to combat the climate crisis, Rober and Donaldson wanted to get people involved with planting trees and went live with a donation page to allow others to get involved.

As 2019 comes to a close, Rober and his team have planted over 19.7 million trees.
