Singer Whitney Houston’s best friend Robyn Crawford is finally confirming the rumors the two were in a romantic relationship.

People obtained excerpts from Crawford’s new memoir A Song For You: My Life with Whitney Houston. Crawford addressed the speculation about her being more than friends with Houston.

The 58-year-old writes that she was Whitney’s romantic partner during the early ‘80s. People have questioned the relationship for decades. Crawford never spoke out publicly and kept a low profile.

She said, “We wanted to be together and that meant just us.” Crawford says they ended being physical after she signed a record deal with Clive Davis.

Crawford says Houston broke the news they couldn’t be physical in 1982. The singer gave Crawford a blue bible. She told Crawford if people found out about them they would use it against them.

She claims Whitney’s mother Cissy Houston told the singer it “wasn’t natural for two women to be that close.” Crawford says, “but we were that close.”

She said, “We never talked about labels, like lesbian or gay. We just lived our lives and I hoped it could go on that way forever.”

Many fans believe Houston’s team pushed Crawford out of her life, fearing the relationship could tarnish her good girl persona. Since Houston’s death, many of her family members have continued to try and shut down speculation about Crawford.

Crawford explained the reason for her finally speaking out. She told the outlet, "I'd come to the point where I felt the need to stand up for our friendship. And I felt an urgency to stand up and share the woman behind the incredible talent."

The book was not previously announced for release.

The memoir is scheduled for release on November 12. Penguin Random House is the book publisher.
