The highly successful vampire mockumentary sitcom "What We Do In the Shadows" will return for a third season, FX announced today. The network also announced that Season 2 would finish up on June 10.

Deadline writes that viewership for the show has risen, so a season 3 renewal is welcome news.

Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX Entertainment, said: “We’re incredibly happy that critics and audiences are all in on 'Shadows.' "

“Week in and week out, the producers, writers and our amazing cast continue to make one of the funniest and best comedy series on TV.”

The show stars Matt Berry as Laszlo; Kayvan Novak as Nandor the Relentless; Natasia Demetriou as Nadja; Harvey Guillén as Guillermo the familiar, a non-vampire; and Mark Proksch as energy vampire Colin Robinson.

The show takes place inside a communal vampire lair. Once in a while the group gets out and about, but always at night (except for Colin -- he's a "daywalker" and can be out at any hour he wants.)

They've all "lived" together for hundreds of years on Staten Island, killing unsuspecting humans along the way.

Guillermo wants to be a vampire like Nandor the Relentless, but they are unaware that Guillermo has Van Helsing blood in him and has been known to kill a vampire here and there -- so he's a bit of a red herring in the show.

There have been plenty of famous guest appearances on "What We Do In the Shadows," such as Vanessa Bayer, Kristen Schaal, Tilda Swinton and Evan Rachel Wood.

The show also had a recent noteworthy appearance from none other than Mark Hamill, also known as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise. Hamill is a vampire this time around, and he's looking for payback.

"What We Do In the Shadows" is based on the 2014 New Zealand movie of the same name by Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi. That movie was based around four vampires who live together.

The movie earned $6.9 million on a rather small budget, so demand for this type of oddball mockumentary was already evident by the time the TV series was launched.

The number of viewers has risen, steadily but surely.

According to Deadline, Season 2 had an average of 462,000 people watching, but that's only 15 percent of its viewership. Delayed and platform viewing has brought the total up to 3.2 million, citing FX.

"That's a 25 percent increase over season one," Deadline says, and that's a number you can sink your teeth into.
