Tom Cruise, aka Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, made a surprise appearance at the famed Comic-Con in San Diego.

57-year-old Cruise was introduced Thursday to a screaming crowd by Conan O'Brien and he took the stage to fire people up about the much anticipated sequel to "Top Gun."

Cruise announced to cheers from the crowd, "34 years ago , I made a movie in San Diego and shot across the street in a restaurant."

He continued, "San Diego is a special place for Top Gun and the sequel was shot here last summer."

Cruise explained, "I was always asked ‘When are you going to do another one?’ Well, you’ve been very patient with me. I felt like it was my responsibility to really deliver for you,” said Cruise who called "Top Gun" a "love letter to aviation."

In the new trailer, Tom looked outstanding in the cockpit of his fighter jet, picking up right where he left off from the 1986 movie.

The trailer shows images of Cruise in his iconic leather jacket, riding his motorcycle, singing in the bar with his buds and also introduces Jon Hamm as a new character.

“Maverick you should be headed to extinction,” Cruise is told, before answering, "Maybe so, sir, but not today."

The movie has many other big stars including Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell and Ed Harris.

Paramount Pictures will be bringing in "Top Gun: Maverick" for a landing on June 26, 2020.
