According to law enforcement, the suspect began firing from one vehicle then ditched that car and highjacked a United States Postal Service mail truck.

The gunman made contact with the police near a movie theater and engaged in gunfire with authorities.

He has since been killed, says Odessa Police Chief, Michael Gerke.

Authorities have identified the shooting suspect was a white male in his 30's. His motive for the crime and name was not given.

As of this post, the shooter killed five people and injured at least 21, including three officers.

According to the Midland Mayor, Jerry Morales, a Department of Public Safety office pulled over a vehicle on the highway.

"That's when he shot the officer and then took off and started shooting randomly," Morales said. "Everything happened after that."
