Man Arrested Near Taylor Swift's Rhode Island Home Had Lock Picks, Crowbar and Rubber Gloves

By Daniel Goldblatt

Taylor Swift's massive Rhode Island home continues to attract unwanted guests and another man was picked up by police after claiming he was there to "catch up" with the pop star.

According to The Westerly Sun, a 32-year-old man from Iowa was charged last week with possession of burglary tools and possession of a prohibited weapon other than a firearm.

Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey told the paper, "He has a history — security guards at the home told us that he was already on a watch list because there were concerns he could pose a threat ... It is our understanding that he may have visited other properties belonging to Taylor Swift in the past."

Police questioned the man after several locals reported a suspicious man near a boat yard. He told police he had just gotten into town after taking a train from New York City. The man said he has previously been to Nashville and Memphis and he was trying to "catch up with Taylor Swift."

Chief Lacey told The Sun, "He kept telling us he knew her personally and was just coming to visit. He said he was trying to launch his singing career and she had agreed to help."

When police first encountered the man, he was carrying a backpack with an aluminum bat sticking out of it. When they searched the bag, they found 30 different lock picks, screwdrivers, a crowbar, a window-entry rake, a flashlight, several pairs of rubber gloves and other tools.

Taylor Swift's security guards told police they had seen the man at her front gate earlier in the day before he walked away.

The Westerly Sun says a no-contact order was issued, which prevents him from attempting to communicate with or traveling to any of her properties.
