"We're not in Hawkins anymore," text on the screen reads alongside the chimes of an ominous bell.

The caption by the stars seconded the sentiment that the main action for the next season will take place in unfamiliar territory.

During the credits, viewers were suddenly transported to Kamchatka, Russia where they were informed of a prisoner known as "The American," along with the revelation that the Russians have opened up the portal and gotten a hold of a Demogorgon.
