Rapper Trina is facing major backlash after calling George Floyd protesters “animals” and now fans want her fired from her hit radio show with Trick Daddy. A petition has been going around calling for her job and it’s already collected over 10k signatures. The petition, which is featured on Change.org, wants bosses to boot the rapper as co-host of “The Trick N Trina Morning Show” on 99 Jamz Radio. While Trina has already issued an apology, it’s not good enough for angry fans.
According to The Source, as of Wednesday, June 10, signatures had reached 13k and only called for a goal of 15k. As The Blast reported, Trina caused a stir when she talked about how frustrated she was with protesters and looters earlier this month.
Lumping them all in one category, the legendary rapper called protesters “animals” and instructed Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez to “lock them up.” She also insisted that he made the curfew for the city even earlier at 6 PM.
Fans were pissed and immediately began taking to Twitter to air out their frustrations at the rapper. #NoTrina quickly began trending with listeners posting funny memes and threatening to cancel her. Someone took action and created the petition which goes off on the star.
“Trina has taken it upon herself to condemn the residents of Miami who participated in the recent protests, live on air, in the most HEINOUS of ways. Not only did she lump protestors and the handful of looters together, but Ms. Taylor also took it upon herself to refer to protestors, who were majority Black and people of color, as “ANIMALS running the streets,” the petition read.
“It is with great disgust that, I, and many other Black Miami natives have to hear such derogatory and disrespectful speech from someone who has only seen success because of OUR support,” it continued. “To make matters worse, Trina made such erroneous statements on a radio station that has a majority BLACK audience after we’ve endured her obnoxious attitude and middle school reading level for months. Calling her statements “ignorant and grotesque,” the petition read that “an apology will NOT do. Trina needs to be removed from this radio show IMMEDIATELY.”
She also caused controversy when she told listeners “never scared” of the police, stating, “I have my license and registration and insurance. I’m not scared. I know my rights.” Trina later apologized chopping her comments up to being on a “roller coaster of emotions.”
“I am not perfect. I’ve fallen short, I’ve been racially profiled, and I’ve had trouble articulating my emotions in the face of personal frustration,” Trina wrote while adding, “I take full responsibility of my actions” and insisting that she stands on the side of equality.
