Chrissy Teigen, Kristen Bell Offer to Pay Potential $100K Fine So McKayla Maroney Can Speak About Abuse in Court

By TheBlast Staff

McKayla Maroney alleged she suffered sexual abuse at the hands of Dr. Larry Nassar last month, but she could be facing a fine if she continues to speak up about the abuse in court this week — but Chrissy Teigen and Kristen Bell are having none of it.

Maroney is one of over a hundred women who've come out to accuse the former US gymnastics doctor of sexual molestation and dozens of them are expected to submit "victim impact statements" to the court this week, according to PEOPLE.

Back in 2016, Maroney settled a lawsuit with U.S. Gymnastics that included a non-disclosure agreement and may face a penalty of $100k if she submits an impact statement. Dr. Nassar was sentenced in December to 60 years in prison for the possession of child pornography and this week he is slated to be sentenced on several counts of criminal sexual assault.

Teigen immediately took to Twitter, one of her most impactful platforms, to lend her support and her wallet to Maroney should she decide to submit her statement to the court, saying she would be "honored" to pay the fine.

Michael Schur — executive producer shows like "The Good Place," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Parks and Recreation" — offered to pitch in as well, which led to Kristen Bell stepping in to take on a third of the cost.

The issue of NDAs in cases of settlements stemming from alleged sexual misconduct has frequently cropped up ever since the first allegations against Harvey Weinstein surfaced at the end of last year.
