Lester Holt may be the only guy at NBC who had a pretty good day yesterday, because for the first time ever the news anchor was allowed to hit the button and light the giant Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center.
Holt joined Lauer's ex-colleagues; Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, and Hoda Kotb Wednesday night for the 85th annual lighting. Holt even made a comment that it was the first time he's been allowed downstairs to participate.
The giant elephant in the room was obviously the absence of disgraced host Matt Lauer, whose name still appeared on the program guide for the TV special.
Luckily, Al was able to put a smile on his face after his melancholic weather forecast earlier in the day.
Lauer has since apologized, and says feels "embarrassed and ashamed."
