If "Mayans M.C." gets picked up for a third season they're going to have to do it without their showrunner, because Kurt Sutter has announced his plans to leave.

“It’s time for the white man to leave the building," Sutter told the audience Tuesday night at the Cinerama Dome during the Hollywood screening of the second season premiere of the "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Sutter explained that he felt a person of color should run the writer's room because the premise of the show revolves around a Mexican biker gang.

Sutter has been executive producer on the FX series since it premiered last September. He was the EP on "Sons of Anarchy" throughout it's 7 season run between 2008 and 2014.

After he makes his exit, Sutter plans on passing the torch to his co-executive producer, Elgin James.

When asked if he thought he'd be able to handle the job when the time came, James told EW he was ready, and explained that, "Being the boss, all that means is taking the chains off and letting everybody do what they do. Everyone on our crew, our writers’ room and in our cast is brilliant. Our job is easy. Just turn the cameras on and let the chemistry happen."

Fans of "Mayans M.C." have been less than hopeful about the future, however, after hearing the news of Sutter's eventual departure from the show.

"Nooo Kurt, don't say it," one fan wrote on Twitter, while another hoped, "fingers crossed for season 3."

Season 2 of "Mayans M.C." is set to premiere Tuesday, Sept. 3 on FX.
