Kevin O’Leary is “devastated” after a second person has died as a result of a boating accident the “Shark Tank” star and his wife were in over the weekend.
O’Leary said in a statement that he was “devastated” by the crash and sent his “heartfelt prayers and condolences” to the victims and their families.
The reality star confirmed his involvement in the crash but placed blame on the other boat.
“On late Saturday night, I was a passenger in a boat that was involved in a tragic collision with another watercraft that had no navigation lights on and then fled the scene,” he said.
“Out of respect for the victims families and to fully support the ongoing investigation I feel it is inappropriate to make further comments at this time. My heartfelt prayers and condolences to the victims, the families and those affected by this loss,” he continued.
The accident took place in Ontario’s Muskoka region of Canada on Saturday night. The crashed killed a 64-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman. According to authorities the O’Leary’s boat and a larger boat collided around 11:30 p.m. ET on Lake Joseph, a popular destination for water sports.
According to several news reports, there may be video of the accident or specifically the larger boat, to clarify if navigation lights were on during the incident. O’Leary’s wife was driving the family boat at the time.
O’Leary’s boat left the scene of the accident after the crash but it was towed to a local marina where police seized it for for forensic testing.
It is unclear at this time if alcohol played a role in the accident, police are investigating.
