Katie Couric spilled the tea on one of her worst interviews which left her feeling shaken.
The legendary journalist appeared on the podcast, Everything Iconic With Danny Pellegrino. During the chat, Couric discussed everything from her uncomfortable interview with Denzel Washington, her non-friendship with Ann Curry and her leaving “The Today Show”.
Pellegrino asked Couric if she ever left an interview where she left feeling bamboozled. She pondered the question for a bit saying she would have to think about it.
She detailed an “uncomfortable” interview she had with Denzel Washington while he was promoting the 2004 remake of the “Manchurian Candidate.”
Couric was interviewing Washington and his costar Meryl Streep about the film. However, she believes he “totally misconstrued a question I asked.”
She said she remembers leaving the interview racking her brain if she said something wrong. Couric added, “God, I must of, I don’t think I said anything wrong. I think he must have been having a really bad day. Because he later wrote a big check to my colon cancer organization, which I thought was super sweet. And I love him. I admire him so much, he’s one of my favorite actors. But I remember walking out feeling kinda shaken that he had gone after me in a way that was completely weirdly uncalled for.”
Pellegrino then asked about Couric’s former “Today Show” co-host, Ann Curry. She admitted, “I haven’t seen her. Once in a while, I run into her at things. I think she’s working on a TBS show or something. I always liked Ann but we weren’t very close friends, so I haven’t kept up with her. I hope she’s doing well.
She admitted not watching “The Today Show” when asked if she tunes in, “I don’t. shhhh. Not too much. Because I look at newsletters, I get my news from my telephone. I’ve just changed the way I consume news and information.”
