It was announced this week that Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough were not having their contracts renewed with America's Got Talent. While Hough maintains that it wasn't because of a toxic environment at AGT, Union had a different experience.

In a new report, Union was constantly criticized and told that her appearance was "too black" for AGT audiences. She also clashed with guest judge Jay Leno when he made a racist joke saying that the dogs in a painting of Simon Cowell looked like they could be "on the menu at a Korean restaurant."

When the news of Union's firing became public, her husband and former NBA player Dwayne Wade tweeted out support for his wife.

"'Men lie, Women lie, numbers don’t' Over this past year I’ve been approached by many people saying that my wife
@itsgabrielleu is the main reason they’ve started watching #AGT or that they love her insight and sincerity on the show."

"So when i got the news that my wife was being fired—my first question was obviously why!? Iam still waiting on a good answer to that question. But if anyone knows @itsgabrielleu or have heard of her you know she’s an advocate for our community and culture."

Wade continued, expressing his pride over her accomplishments but mostly praising the strength of her character. This is what a ride or die team looks like.

"As proud as i were of her being selected as a judge on #AGT— Iam even more proud of her standing up for what she stands for and that’s US."

"So ? to you @itsgabrielleu on not losing sight of the lessons we’ve talked about teaching our daughter and for kicking ass while you were on that platform. Number 1 judge on one of the biggest shows in the world‼️"

Union has yet to comment on the controversy.

NBC and Fremantle -- the production company behind America's Got Talentreleased a statement to Variety in the wake of these allegations.

"America’s Got Talent has a long history of inclusivity and diversity in both our talent and the acts championed by the show. The judging and host lineup has been regularly refreshed over the years and that is one of the reasons for AGT’s enduring popularity. NBC and the producers take any issues on set seriously."
