'Days Of Our Lives' Will Return!

Fans of the long-running soap "Days Of Our Lives" are relieved and happy this morning to hear that the show has been renewed for its 56th season.

The announcement from NBC Universal finally came down today.

“Days of our Lives has Been Renewed for it's 56th Year. For Over 5 Decades Days Has Given Viewers Captivating Storylines About Family, Friends, Life and Love,” wrote one fan.

Fans were beyond overjoyed to hear that Marlena, John, and the whole gang would be returning for at least another year.

“I’m crying! I’m actually crying at the WONDEFUL, FANTASTIC, AMAZING news that ‘Days Of Our Lives’ has been renewed!!” So stoked for the fans & most of all the cast & crew! [NBC] you made the right decision!”

They Were All Let Go Recently

The news comes after the entire cast were let go from their contracts, causing an uproar with fans. The show itself was also going to go on hiatus.

Even as it was made clear that they had enough episodes to get viewers through the summer of 2020, it was still alarming to hear that the entire cast would be gone.

One source said it was basically a "business move" that could save the show some money.

“It’s actually a shrewd — if cynical — business move. If Days gets picked up, [Ken Corday] can offer the actors new contacts at a reduced rate and with a ‘take-it-or-leave’ it attitude. Worst case scenario, they lose half their cast. Best case scenario [for Corday], everyone agrees to return at a lower salary.”

Contract Situation Came Amid Plot Shakeup

The announcement that the actors were being let go came soon after news of a storyline that was going to shake things up.

According to executive producer Ken Corday: "This is a great way to reset things in Salem."

The time jump was set to take place after the Nov. 8 episode. Even then it was announced that there was going to be even more changes.

"It will be a catalyst for many more [changes] to follow," said Corday.

Was It All Just For Show?

Deidre Hall, who has played Marlena Evans for decades, was excited about the upcoming change.

"It'll shake things up. It will remind people of things that used to be going on [in Salem]," she said.

Hall gave a hint into what the new storyline might involve, and part of it involved her longstanding relationship with John (Drake Hogestyn).

"You can't get in between them…but somebody tries."

Isn't that always the way?

Further, Hall said the massive plot twist would "reunite our fans."

"People will call their friends: 'Did you see what happened?'"

But the next day, the actors were let go from their contracts, and it was pure bedlam.

Glad to hear that people will be able to get their DOOL fix at least into 2021.
