Country Star Cassadee Pope's Pride Month Message Receives Backlash

By Josh Wells

Cassadee Pope is getting unfortunate backlash from some country fans who didn't take too kindly to the star showing support for the LGBTQ+ community during Pride month.

The "Wasting All These Tears" singer posted her message of love and support on Monday, saying, "Less than a week left of pride month... but that doesn’t mean I’ll ever stop being proud of my brothers and sisters for living their truth. #pride #loveislove".

Some of the comments, however, were met with extreme disdain as a few of her follows reacted angrily with comments such as "Just lost a fan", "Disappointed. #singissin", and "Unfollowing."

One "fan" actually responded by saying, "Yeah that's disgusting."

Luckily, those comments were outweighed by the overflowing love and support for the country star's post, and included approval from many stating, "Love this! <3", "Love is Love", and "Thank you for being an ally".

Acknowledging the backlash, one fan joked that, "These republicans getting angry."

Pope has not yet responded to the war that erupted in her IG feed.

The "Think Of You" singer rose to stardom by appearing on the third season of 'The Voice' and became the first female winner of the competition. From there, she debuted her first solo country album, 'Frame by Frame', which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums—selling a whopping 43,000 in its first week.

This past February she released her second studio album, "Stages," and in 2018 won the Top Indie Artist at the Taste of Country Fan Choice Awards.

Though the rights and acceptance of the queer community have evolved lightyears from where they were, whenever a celebrity makes a comment regarding their support it becomes apparent of how far we (yes, this writer is gay) have to go.

But, as more and more celebrities come out (no pun intended!) of support for the LGBTQ+ community, it's encouraging that support of those with influence will help change the narrative and continue to spread the message that "#loveislove" -- regardless of personal beliefs.
