Instagram’s double standard regarding nudity (honestly, the double standard for the world) is the topic of much debate, and actress Amber Heard is just one user to come up against it, when an image she posted from a shoot with Interview magazine got taken down because a nipple was exposed.
Heard used her Aquaman costar Jason Momoa to make a point about this topic of discussion, photoshopping in his face and torso into the shot, exposed nipple and all. Of course, this version of the picture didn’t violate the guidelines, so it has stayed up without incident. Heard wrote about the situation, saying:
“In honor of IG’s rigorous and equitable Community Guidelines against showing the female nipple… and since mine enjoyed the brief privilege that’s afforded to my male counterparts… I decided to pay homage by replacing it with a picture that DID meet IG’s strict nudity guidelines and such careful gender policies.”
This isn’t the first time that Heard has used her Instagram as a platform to discuss issues that she cares about, including gender equality, the MeToo movement, and speaking out in favor of victims of abuse. You go, girl!
