The estranged father of late rapper XXXTentacion was recently in court as part of his son’s estate, seeking to be included in decisions about his music, business and money.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, XXXTentacion’s father Dwayne Onfroy, hired a high-powered Florida law firm to represent him.
Dwayne only filed documents notifying the court he is making an appearance and wants to be notified of all future proceedings. He has not given a full explanation of why he is now showing up to court wanting to be included.
XXXTentacion drafted a will months before his death which appointed his mother Cleopatra Bernard as the personal representative of his estate. She's in charge of all business decisions, handles all the incoming money and is to handle anything regarding her late son’s music being released.
XXXTentacion and his father Dwayne did not have a close relationship during his life. He claimed he was raised by his grandmother for the majority of his life but his mom did come around. Dwayne spoke out after the death saying he was in jail for a lot of XXX’s life. He denied ever intentionally abandoning his son.
He spoke to The Florida Files before his son’s death and said, "he was coming around to me."
Earlier this year, XXX’s mother Cleopatra was shut down in her attempt to block her son’s baby mama, Jenesis Sanchez, from obtaining his DNA samples. A judge sided with Sanchez and allowed her to get the samples from the star to establish paternity for the late rapper’s son, Gekyume Onfroy, who was born on January 26, 2019.
XXXTentacion was murdered on June 18, 2018 and fans remembered the rapper on the anniversary of the death earlier this month. Four men were arrested and charged for their role in the murder and are awaiting trial.
The estate recently teased a XXXTentacion documentary with a short trailer.
