1. A Night Celebrating Women

On Friday afternoon, Variety's Power of Women luncheon celebrated the philanthropic endeavors of A-list women, focusing on Awkwafina, Jennifer Aniston, Mariah Carey, Brie Larson, Chaka Khan, and Disney Television and ABC Entertainment Chairman Dana Walden.

2. Mariah Carey's Cause

Pop legend Mariah Carey praised her fellow attendees and honorees for "their triumphs over the misogynistic society of corporate asses that we deal with every day" and also championed her charity of choice, the Fresh Air Fund’s Camp Mariah. She explained her own experiences at camp as a kid and how it affected the rest of her life.

"You don’t have to be defined or confined by your environment, your family’s circumstances and certainly not by your race or gender. I’ve been blessed to witness thousands of kids have a space to breathe, run through fields of green grass and believe in who they can be. And that is one of the greatest honors of my career."

3. A Hilarious Mix Up

However, despite the moving aspects of her speech, people on Twitter were losing it over a teleprompter error that led to Carey mixing up Jennifer Aniston, who gave her speech before Carey did, and Reese Witherspoon, who was not in attendance.

Carey claimed to have predicted the teleprompter failure and explained "this is why I have cue cards because I was watching Reese Witherspoon doing her speech."

Now, with anybody else, this wouldn't be hilarious, but Carey has been meme-ified for her iconic "I don't know her" moment. This certainly was an accident instead of shade, but wouldn't it be hilarious if it wasn't?
