The battle between Britney Spears' new legal team and her father, Jamie Spears, has just gotten VERY nasty after they hurled  allegations that her dad is an "alcoholic and gambling addict."

According to legal documents, the 'Toxic' singer's lawyer --  Mathew Rosengart -- is going on the attack against the Spears family patriarch after Jamie filed his own documents claiming he should be replaced as conservator of her estate. Plus, Jamie claimed the accountant Britney's team tapped to take over the case -- John Zabel -- was unqualified to take the position.

So, Britney's mouthpiece fired a huge shot about her father calling him a "reported alcoholic and gambling addict." Damn. Clearly, things have gotten very nasty, very quickly in this case and we are guessing it will boil over in the next 24 hours when the group is due in an L.A. County Courtroom.

As we reported, Britney's team asked a judge to sign off on appointing Zabel as conservator of her estate, dropping Jaime, and said he is a "highly-esteemed, nationally-recognized, award-winning CPA with an impeccable record of serving in positions of trust." Jamie responded by saying her $60 million estate could be at risk because of Zabel's lack of experience. Plus, he took a shot at him for losing $1 million of his own money in a fraudulent real estate investment.

Now, Rosengart is on the offensive, blasting Jamie Spears for his judgment of the new conservator -- pointing out that Britney's dad has "zero financial background or experience in financial matters, who previously filed for bankruptcy and has a Domestic Violence Restraining Order currently in effect against him."

The restraining order is in reference to a story The Blast broke about allegations Jamie has assaulted one of Britney's young sons. No criminal charges were ever filed against Mr. Spears.

The new documents point out Jamie's request for fees for himself and his attorneys. Rosengart calls Jamie incompetent and rails on what he calls "abuse of his daughter (which evidently goes back to her childhood), and the dissipation of estate assets."

“He wants to escape justice and accountability (but will not) and he will evidently do or say anything to avoid it,” Rosengart said, noting Jamie would have to provide all documents to Zabel, which might be problematic to him. Adding, “He knows that when he is suspended he must turn over the conservatorship files, including purported attorney-client privileged documents (communications with his lawyers), to the new temporary conservator."
