The thing with a series like The Crown is that if you’ve read a recent history book or watch any of the countless documentaries on The Royal Family you know exactly what’s going to happen in the series. The fact that the show has been able to captivate so many people in spite of this makes the achievement commendable. In the next two seasons of the show, we are going to get to see the total breakdown of Charles, and Diana’s marriage. Culminating potentially in that dreadful night in Paris.
The Fayed Family Has Been Cast
At the time of her death in that Paris tunnel princess Diana was dating Dodi Fayed the son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed. Variety announced that actors for both Dodi and his father have already been picked out by the production team behind the hit show. With Dodi being played by Khalid Abdalla. The actor had a great run in the mid-2000s. As he was part of the movie Kite Runner, and United 93. Yes, Princess Diana’s last boyfriend is going to be played by the same actor that played a 9/11 plane hijacker in United 93. With Mohamed Al-Fayed by Salim Daw.
Other Casting Choices For The Upcoming Seasons
Netflix
We’ve known for a while that Imelda Staunton was picked to give life to Queen Elizabeth II in the 90s. Potentially the most challenging decade in her reign so far. Although, Harry and Meghan aren’t making the start of this one easy!
Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West are set to play Princess Diana and Prince Charles respectively. Debicki is mostly known for her work in The Great Gatsby. While West is an actor that’s crafted out quite a career for himself. Appearing in films like 300, and the massive flop John Carter.
The Events That Will Be Covered In The Upcoming Seasons
There’s certainly still an ongoing debate as to which particular events are going to be covered by the series in what are set to be its final 2 seasons. In adding the Fayed's as characters on the show it’s potentially inevitable that the dark night in the Paris tunnel will be a climactic moment in the series.
In tackling the 90s with the upcoming season that would leave the last season to cover the 2000s. Which, probably means we won’t see Meghan Markle, but we may get to see Harry in a Nazi suit or Harry naked in Vegas!
Covering The Diana Story
So far Buckingham Palace has remained “quiet” for the most part about the events shown on the Crown. Members of the royal family have given mixed reviews about the show. With most of them pointing out that the audience should remember that the show dramatizes a lot of the events. Many of these instances then potentially didn’t happen exactly as they are portrayed in the series. The death of Diana though could be “The Scene” that ultimately forces The Royal Family to step in. There’s sure to be more controversy on the way before the series premieres!
