Back in December of 2013, Schumacher suffered a skiing accident while on holiday with his son Mick and other friends. The former race car driver hit his head on a rock and was knocked unconscious. As a result of the incident, he suffered a severe brain injury that has literally confined him to a bed for years. Updates on his actual condition though have been hard to come by since the date of the incident. Now, in the documentary, his family members are opening up about what the former champion’s everyday life is really like.

The Schumacher family really had to jump through some hoops to create the documentary. Obviously like any biopic, the success of the series is predicated on the level of access and information that the audience is going to get. With the family green-lighting the production of the documentary they’ve had to balance that overprotection of their private lives. Michael's wife Corina Schumacher admitted that Michael is “different”, but they are still trying to remain strong as a family unit. She mentioned on the family’s privacy policy,

"'Private is private,' as he [Michael] always said. It's very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us and now we are protecting Michael."

To be honest any part of the series where Michael’s current condition is discussed is an emotional moment. Potentially none of the moments in the documentary are more emotional than when Mick, Michael’s son, is speaking about his father. In doing so he revealed an important detail about his current condition. Which, sadly, is the fact that the former champion can’t really speak or fully communicate. Mick mentioned,

"I think Dad and me, we would understand each other now in a different way now. Simply because we speak a similar language, the language of motorsport. And that we would have so much more to talk about." he then added, “That's where my head is most of the time. Thinking that it would be cool. That would be it. I would give up everything just for that."
