The PGA Tour has announced a new partnership with Netflix. The streaming service is going to be looking to produce a show that would have them follow around 12 players through their journey on tour. People in the know are saying that the show is set to have a similar format to another Netflix hit, Drive to Survive. The documentary series around the world of Formula 1 has undoubtedly brought new fans to the sport. The PGA Tour is looking for this show to do the same for them.
What We Know Right Now

As we’ve mentioned the base idea for the show is literally to mimic how Drive to Survive operates. Obviously, there are a couple of differences that have to be taken into account. In Drive to Survive every team will travel with all of their top drivers to every race. So your character lineup is always going to be complete every race for the most part.
In golf players travel to the tournaments that they want, and can play. Therefore, the producers of the show may want to grab a couple of top players with similar schedules. Rumors indicate that many top Tour players have already signed on to participate.
The Level of Access is Key

What’s going to make the show potentially sink or swim is the level of access that players grant to the cameras. Like any “reality show”, which in many ways we could say this particular show could turn out to be. The producers are currently working out how they would be able to film both on the course and at home with the players. Those home clips could be a little more challenging since each player keeps their own travel schedule.
Golf’s Been Opening Up
@House of Highlights/ Youtube
Golf has been granting more and more access to players and the things that are said on the course. This is evident in events like Capital One’s The Match. The show that was held during the peak of the lockdown in 2020 featuring Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady, and Payton Manning brought in record numbers for a golf event. Also, there was that interaction between Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau that blew up on Twitter recently! All of these instances point to the fact that it makes sense to try to put a show together that could grow the interest in the game.
For comparison Formula One ratings in America have risen from 547,000 in 2018 to 928,000 in 2021. The show is largely blamed for that meteoric rise!
When Could We Expect To See This Show Available On Netflix?

The deal between the PGA Tour and Netflix was just finalized a couple of days ago tops. Therefore, a lot of the details are still being ironed out. The idea though is for camera crews to hit the road with the selected players, which, as we mentioned are going to be around 12, for the 2021-2022 season. The current season is almost set to wrap up with the final of the FedEx Cup playoffs taking place this weekend. The show would have a very short offseason period to get ready so that they can start covering the players at the start of the new season.
