Demi Lovato Slid Into 'Schitt's Creek' Star Emily Hampshire's DM: 'I Find You Attractive'

Demi Lovato once tried to shoot their shot with Schitt’s Creek actress Emily Hampshire. The singer, 29 talked about the bold move on their podcast 4D With Demi Lovato with Hampshire was the guest that week. The story only came about because they couldn’t help but gush about the first time they kind of met. “You slid in my DMs, and you said, ‘Hey, I like you on the show. We should kick it some time,’ recounted the actress, 40. She confirmed that Lovato was straight up and to the point making it clear that she was indeed approaching Hampshire in a romantic way.

Lovato definitely spit some game at the Canadian actress telling her ‘I find you attractive’ and clarified that “by kick it, I mean go on a date.” They are no longer holding back in life after feeling empowered coming through all of life’s hurdles like their substance abuse, sexual identity, and being scrutinized by the media from such a young age. While the boldness was appreciated, the two did not go on a date and have kept things strictly platonic but Hampshire admitted it was a bit of a turn on. “You made it clear it was a date. And I loved that.”

Apparently, the “Anyone” singer wasn’t willing to give up easily even when the “Chapelwaithe” actress pointed out that she was 11-years older than Lovato. “‘Think of Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor,’” Lovato pointed out to Hampshire about the iconic couple with a 32-year age gap. Taylor is 78-years-old, and Paulson is 46-year-old. Lovato jokingly told Hampshire making sure to add, “I don’t mean you’re the Holland Taylor!” which wasn’t an insult to actress. “I thought it was the funniest thing in the whole world because I was a Holland Taylor in that situation. Proud to be.”

Lovato laughed off the entire encounter stating, “a non-binary person can dream.” Sharing that at the time they were still struggling with identity. “She, I at the time was a ‘she,’ she was dreaming big. I was like, ‘What’s the worst that could happen?’” So, a relationship isn’t in the cards for these two, but a “dope” friendship was. “I made a really good friend. You’re a dope friend, and I’m happy we became friends.” Hampshire agreed with the former Disney channel star’s remarks about their strong bond, “me too. I wish you weren’t 29!”

They also bonded over their experiences of both being single at the same time. Hampshire identifies as Pansexual and is taking time to heal after her difficult breakup with songwriter Teddy Geiger. Lovato had that very public and confusing breakup with former fiancé Max Ehrich in September 2020 and has since gone on to explore their sexuality and is adamant that a new relationship is not on their mind. For now, they are focused on being happy with themselves. “I don’t want to ever sacrifice who I am at the expense of being in a relationship with someone else.”
