Demi Lovato has had their fair share of romance in and out of the industry. It starts off with a lovely beginning, but it soon comes crashing down. While some famous people might not be big on calling out their exes or writing songs about them, the “Heart Attack” singer is well-grounded in that area.
On March 6, 2020, they dropped a song titled “I Love Me,” featuring a male and female video vixen. The lyrics of the song centered on self-love and acceptance. The singer looked smashing in the music video, in a red leather jacket, and dashing red lipstick.
After the video dropped, fans were quick to speculate that the man and woman in the video represented Lovato’s ex, Wilmer Valderrama, and his new fiancé, Amanda Pacheco. The couple was introduced into the video right after a scene depicting Lovato’s drug abuse.
Although it was obvious that the song and video was largely about the singer’s life, fans insisted that they indirectly referred to their ex and his new relationship.
Speaking about their failed romance with Ehrich recently, they said; “Dumping Max was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
One thing fans know about Lovato is that they never ever mince words. Keep reading below for more information.
The Pandemic
For many people in the world, the pandemic, coupled with the lockdown was a difficult experience, especially for people who were used to being outside their homes for long periods.
During a discussion with Kate Sosin of The 19th Represents Summit, Lovato noted that their journey to non-binary and the present use of they/their/them pronouns was not an easy one. In fact, it was a long process, that was finalized after their breakup from Ehrich.
They went on to say that the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic also contributed to this decision, which they are grateful for every day. Apparently, during the first week of the pandemic, the “Confident” singer already began to identify as non-binary.
However, they revealed that it was during this time that they met an American actor and singer, Max Ehrich. “I got into this straight relationship,” Lovato said to Kate Sosin. Initially, the pair seemed to be going great— with incredible and jaw-dropping photos online, but it soon turned sour.
Demi Lovato Dishes On Their Straight Relationship
Giving their honest opinion about the relationship, they said; “… And that was great.” Sadly, they noted that they placed so much focus on the relationship, that they began to ignore more important aspects of their life.
The singer went on to say that they ignored this part because, at the time, it did not seem digestible for their partner, who later became her fiancé. From the outward look, the pair were on to great things, as they made plans to spend the rest of their lives together, but along the line, something went wrong.
Dishing on how the relationship went down the drain, and their decision to end it for good, Lovato said; “In hindsight, the dissolving of that relationship was actually probably the best thing that’s happened to me.”
They went on to reveal that ending their engagement led to self development in several ways, including their decision to be openly non-binary, and not conform for anyone again.
The Long-Term Benefits
In the past, when celebrities end their relationships or marriages, fans often hear them talk about how it was easier to find and appreciate themselves more after the relationship. Although, some noted this after being in abusive relationship, that might not always be the case.
From Lovato’s discussion with Sosin, it can be gathered that the singer did not feel like more of themself while in the relationship. However, after it ended, they were able to become more expressive, and not have to hide for anyone. They also added that after the split, it was easier to “stand on their two feet, and not have to look to anyone for validation or acceptance.”
The “Sorry Not Sorry” singer explained that they really “started to identify as non-binary after ending the romance with Ehrich.”
Meanwhile, fans are praising Lovato for their decision to be open and not conform to the wishes of anyone, as that is one of the worst things that could ever happen to anyone. We wish the singer the best in their future endevors and cannot wait to hear news about a new love story.
Coming Out To The World
The LGBTQ community applauds and encourages anyone who wants to come out to the world, to do it regardless of what others might say, or who would not be accepting. It is no doubt, an incredible thing to live unapologetically in a world full of restrictions and opinionated people.
During the last few months, Lovato said she started coming out to her close friends and noted to them that their recently ended engagement, played a role in the delay to come out. However, they put it out there for everyone to know that exploring this aspect of their life, will definitely be long-term.
“There might be a time where I identify as trans. There might be a time where I identify as non-binary and gender-nonconforming my entire life. Or maybe there’s a period of time when I get older that I identify as a woman,” they said. In essence, Lovato wants to be as fluid as possible, and not have to live by anybody’s rules.
Good luck, Demi Lovato.
