'Twilight' Star Kristen Stewart Says Fans Made Her Romance With Robert Pattinson 'Gross'

Kristen Stewart had such an incredible fanbase pull during and after playing the role of Bella Swan, the naive lover-girl in the "Twilight" series. However, that was not the only reason why the actress gained so much recognition amongst millions of fans worldwide.

One of the most important aspects of the role she played in the series, was the uncanny and outrageous chemistry she had with her co-star and love interest, Robert Pattinson, who played Edward Collen, an old vampire from a family of brutal vampires.

The pair transformed an every day love story into something so magnificent, that fans were no longer content with just seeing them as co-stars. Whether directly or indirectly, several fans implied that the duo would be great together, if only they gave love a chance outside the shores of their movie characters. When the deed was finally done, and fans discovered that the on-screen lovers were now a real-life couple, all hell broke loose.

Speaking about her ordeal during her romance with Pattinson, Stewart noted that the incessant opinions from fans about their relationship, made it dating her co-star 'gross' for her. What was supposed to be a beautiful work relationship, transcended into real-life romance, that eventually ended in a wreck. While the actress does have her faults, she admitted that the attention her relationship received made it difficult for her.

Pattinson once noted that he felt intimidated when he and Stewart started dating because she had such an impressive and progressive resume that he could only wish for at that time. However, he did respect her as an actor, and in a way, she inspired him.

Nevertheless, there have been reports that the duo showed off exemplary chemistry during the auditions that took the producers aback. It seemed like Stewart's place in the movie was already solidified, but Catherine Hardwick was still finding it difficult to choose who would take Pattinson's role.

Stewart told Vanity Fair in 2008 that she pushed for the actor to be cast in the series. Apparently, when Hardwick mentioned that she was finding it difficult to pick the best person to play the vampire role, Stewart blurted out saying; "... Are you kidding me!? It's such an obvious choice. It couldn't have been better. It was sort of perfect."

Without mincing her words, the 31-year-old actress said; "Well I basically cast him."

When movie producers say they are looking out for love interests that are compatible on screen to help captivate viewers, they might be referring to the kind of chemistry that resonated between Pattinson and Stewart.

The pair portrayed such a scary and mind-blowing compatibility, that left fans with dropped jaws, and later led to an online campaign for a love-story continuance. It's not everyday people get to watch two completely different personalities meet and become a sensation for years to come. Speaking about the pair clicking right away, the series director, Hardwicke told Collider that "it was kind of scary." She also chipped in that when the ex-couple worked together, everyone present in the room could feel it.

In the "Twilight" series, the couple had lived in two different worlds and known two different lifestyles before meeting each other. However, after they fell in love, it felt like they had known each other all their lives,a nd fans felt it too.

As expected, Twilight series fans started pushing for the pair to continue their relationship off-screen, forgetting the fact that in the real world, there's no script to follow, as everyone's true colors are revealed.

As earlier stated, Stewart and Pattinson first met on the set of "Twilight," and immediately hit it off right away. The following year, they bagged the MTV Awards for Best Kiss.

The relationship seemed to be going well until July 2012 when The Telegraph reported that the "Charlie's Angels" actress moved out of the home she shared with the "Cosmopolis" actor. The news outlet went on to reveal that she moved out because she had an affair with Rupert Sanders, who was married at the time. According to Stewart, the affair was a "momentary indiscretion," that led to the end of her relationship with Pattinson.

When fans heard what Stewart did, they slammed the actress and encouraged Pattinson to move on as soon as possible. She also received wild criticism from former President, Donald Trump who tweeted; "Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a d*g & will do it again, just watch. He can do so much better."

Sometimes, when fans are obsessed with an on-screen couple, things can easily get out of hand, and according to Stewart they did in the few years that she was romantically involved with Pattinson. She explained that the need for her and Pattinson's love story was enormous that it turned them into a "product" online.

"It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me. It’s not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I’m doing in my life. It’s that I don’t want to become a part of a story for entertainment value," she explained.

Millions of people had one or two opinions about this romance story, and eventually started projecting how they thought it should go. It's understandable that the actress felt suffocated despite living in a free world. Famous people already have some aspects of their lives outlined by fans, having their personal relationships face that stress can be difficult to bear.

Luckily, both Pattinson and Stewart now live private and happy lives with their respective partners.
