Sophia Bush Talk About New Tattoo After Chad Michael Murray Split: 'Closing A Personal Chapter In My Life'

The 39-year-old "Love, Victor" actress and "One Tree Hill" co-star, Sophia Bush, recalled her decision to get inked during her Drama Queens podcast that was co-hosted with Bethany Joy Lenz and Hilarie Burton.

This came up when they, during an episode of the podcast, talked about Lucas' botched tattoo in "One Tree Hill" which was played by her ex, Chad Michael Murray. She mentioned getting body art after the split between her and Murray, as she was determined to close a personal chapter in her life. The tattoo was gotten to mark the end of her married life with Murray.

The couple, who met on a teen drama set, started dating in 2003 and got married two years after in a seafront ceremony in Santa Monica, separated in 2006. Bush was 23 at the time, while Murray was 24. There were no children shared between them.

Bush's co-host and "Rural Diaries" author, Burton also pitched in on how she got a tattoo to mark the end of a personal and significant chapter in her life. At a point in the podcast, Burton added, "Just closing those books," to which Bush replied, "We just close them, and set 'em on fire."

From the look of things, it'd seem Bush got inked as a result of the divorce, but on additional information, we'd later discover her real reason for getting her first tattoo. Bush, who has seven tattoos with six in discreet white ink, stated her real reason for the body art.

"I didn't get my first tattoo until I was 23," she said, adding to the inspiration. "I am gonna embarrass myself. You guys, I love Goldie Hawn so much. I was closing a personal chapter in my life at the time, and I read Goldie's book 'A Lotus Grows in the Mud.' It, like, changed my life."

She went on to say that she left notes inside the pages of her copy of Hawn's book, which she called "the inside of my heart" and was "passed around a group of women going through transitions" as support.

This 35-part book was Goldie's memoir published in 2005 that recorded interactions of Goldie with friends and strangers alike. Bush said she got her first tattoo in L.A. at the Shamrock Social Club on Sunset.

Bush recently pointed out she had no intention of discussing the nitty gritty details of her ill-fated marriage with Murray. She added that at the point of the relationship, she was a "very naïve 21-year-old kid," and "that's all there is to it."

Additionally, she noted during the Inside of You podcast that for every time she spoke on the issue on live TV, unnecessary dramas and controversies stemmed from it.

“I’m not going to talk about him. I’m not allowed to because I’ve tried to poke fun at being a dumb kid and whenever I’ve done that, it gets twisted into I’m talking s–t about somebody who I don’t even know anymore, who’s clearly a grown-up. I think you have to, like, laugh at who you used to be, but when people ask me about history that involves someone else. It’s not worth my time, she said.

She then continued saying; "It’s not a place where I harbor ill will or anything. I’ve also tried to, like, you know, do the thing where when I get stuck live on the air — which has happened to me twice — getting asked about it where I give a little, like, jazz hands quip and move on, it just doesn’t work, so I’m never going to.” She also added, 'I’m like, ‘Do you want to talk about a dumb thing you did when you were 21, when you were essentially a senior in college?’ Like, I have this whole other career."

The actress is uninterested with the impending drama that will stem from her breakup, as she wants to move on with her life, while doing everything she has been doing since she became a shining star in the industry.

When asked about her marriage, Bush admitted she didn't want to get married, but didn't want to "let anyone down at the time."

“It was not a thing I actually really wanted to do, but you know, it’s cool. Ladies have to learn how to take up space in the way that men are taught they are entitled to,” she said at the time.

“What’s the fight? And when you have bosses telling you that you’re the only person who gets a person to work on time, and 200 people either get to see their kids at night or they don’t because our days start on time,” Bush explained.

Although she did not go into specifics about how the end of her marriage unfolded, and if she is still friends with her ex, but from her explanation, it can be gathered that the divorce is not only painful for the actress, whatever led to it is hurtful too.

Earlier this month, Bush shared a proposal photo on her Instagram that sent fans into a frenzy. The actress acknowledged that she and Grant Hughes have gotten engaged.

Furthermore, the post dedicated a beautiful message to her new lover and fiancé saying; "So it turns out that being your favorite person's favorite person is the actual best feeling on planet Earth #YES. Thank you to @comoclassicboats and @bottega53 for helping my favorite human plan the most incredible, moving surprise of my life. My heart. It bursts."

Despite her hurtful breakup from Murray, the actress is moving on with her life and is not oblivious to the fact that there is love around her, if she lets herself feel it.
