Cher is facing an unexpected obstacle in her fight to place her son under conservatorship.
The Goddess of Pop is currently pushing to have her infamous, troubled son Elijah Blue Allman‘s estate under conservatorship due to his substance abuse problems.
Cher argued that he could not manage his finances efficiently, a claim her son’s on-and-off-again wife recently disputed in an emotional declaration.
Cher’s Daughter-In-Law Wants To Be Involved In The Conservatorship Case

According to new reports, Allman’s wife, Marieangela King, has called off her divorce petition to fight for her place in the conservatorship case. Cher initiated the request for a conservator to oversee her son’s finances in April following a string of arrests.
King agreed with Cher that Allman “has a drug problem”; however, she did not accept her mother-in-law’s description of his current condition. “Elijah is not a hopeless case, and he is not gravely disabled,” she stressed in her declaration.
The concerned wife argued that any decision regarding her husband’s future “should be made with a complete understanding of his current circumstances, treatment, support system, and wishes.”
Page Six reported that she slammed Cher’s narrative about Allman’s situation while fighting for the right to be involved in the conservatorship proceedings.
The Singer-Songwriter’s Claims Were Shut Down As ‘Misleading’

When Cher filed her conservatorship petition, she argued that her son was “unable to manage his financial resources” and “spends any money he gets immediately” on “drugs, expensive hotels, and limousine transportation.”
King shared a different narrative in her declaration, claiming, “It is extremely false and misleading to insinuate that Elijah has the ability to empty or deplete either of the trusts in question as this petition suggests.”
She explained that when her husband’s father, Greg Allman, died, he “left a trustee named Michael Lehman in charge of Elijah’s disbursements, which consist of interest the trusts generate.” Therefore, all disbursements were at Lehman’s sole discretion, not Cher’s son.
Elijah Blue Allman’s Wife Wants To Fight For Their Future

As for her plea to be involved in the conservatorship proceedings, King noted she was not given access to the materials related to the case. The list included the court investigator’s report and medical evaluations, which she begged the court for “an opportunity to review.”
She argued that she deserved a chance because of her ties to Allman. According to the singer-songwriter, the outcome of the conservatorship case would “substantially affect both [her] husband and [their] marital rights and interests.”
King asked to be heard in the case, citing her “unique and firsthand knowledge” regarding Allman’s history, treatment efforts, and his alleged wishes. “I want to do right by Elijah, as I made him that promise when I married him in 2013, and I will stand by him throughout this process,” she added.
The Goddess Of Pop Faced More Obstacles In Court

Before King’s declaration, Rolling Stone reported that Cher had faced more obstacles in her conservatorship bid at a recent hearing. Her troubled son appeared virtually from his psychiatric facility in New Hampshire without a lawyer, noting he wished to represent himself.
However, his request was shot down by Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui, who postponed the case to September 1 due to Allman’s lack of legal representation. She also stressed that if he appeared without an attorney at the next hearing, she would appoint one for him.
The case’s postponement wasn’t the only problem, as the judge told Cher’s attorney, Justin Gold, that she was wondering whether Los Angeles County was the right venue for the case. The reason stemmed from Allman’s rehabilitation in New Hampshire and his previous claims of never returning to California.
Inside Cher’s Son And His Wife’s On-And-Off-Again Relationship

Allman had a lot on his plate besides fighting against the conservatorship and his infamous substance abuse problems. His personal life has been just as colorful thanks to his on-and-off-again relationship with King, whom he met in 2013 and married that year in December, per US Weekly.
Their love fizzled out in April 2020 when they separated, with Cher’s son filing for divorce in November 2021, citing irreconcilable differences. The petition was later dismissed in 2024, a year after King accused the iconic singer of hiring four men to kidnap her son.
At the time, King claimed Cher had ordered Allman dragged out of their New York City hotel room in November 2022 and placed him in an undisclosed treatment center. The entertainer fired back by painting King as a “tumultuous” force in her son’s life in a 2023 conservatorship filing.
The couple’s troubles continued in April 2025 when King filed for divorce. She cited March 31, 2025, as their date of separation and requested $6,000 per month in temporary spousal support. She has since called off the divorce petition to fight for a place in Cher’s new conservatorship proceedings.
