What a way for Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to celebrate her victory over Spencer Pratt!
The politician showed up at the 2026 BET Awards looking every inch a champion on Sunday, June 28, weeks after she dealt a narrow but decisive victory to reality TV star Spencer Pratt and Nithya Raman in the June 2 mayoral primary election.
Karen Bass made the news on the eve of the mayoral primary election when she described Spencer Pratt as a television personality with no track record and unfit for public office.

The Los Angeles mayor kept it stylish while appearing on the red carpet at Los Angeles Peacock Theatre on Sunday evening. She opted for a blue pantsuit with nude pumps, pairing the look with hoop earrings and matching eyeglasses.
Bass was all smiles at the occasion, which marked her first mainstream public outing since her victory in the primary elections ahead of a runoff this fall. As noted by US Magazine, Bass’s most vocal opponent, Pratt, ultimately came third behind Raman, who has equally advanced to the runoff stage.
Pratt had previously shared that he was inspired to throw his hat in the race after his home was destroyed in the 2025 LA fires. According to him, Bass’s handling of the disaster’s aftermath was deeply disappointing, prompting him to run for mayor, hoping to win and eventually make everything right.
The 72-Year-Old Slammed The Reality Star’s Showbiz Past Pre-Election

Bass was approached to give her thoughts to voters trying to decide between her and Pratt, prompting her to refer to the reality star’s past.
There, the politician argued that voters do not have to lose sleep over their choice, especially when it is between someone who has made an impact as a public servant and a reality-star villain.
As reported by The Blast, Bass compared Pratt to President Donald Trump, noting that it is common knowledge how reality stars fare when they enter government.
“And what’s going on is not the best picture. So, a reality star with no track record, I’m not sure he’s ever had a job other than reality TV,” the politician added.
Bass continued that Pratt essentially had no idea about the city’s administrative workings, and his intentions could never be as sincere as those of someone who has devoted their life to bringing about change in Los Angeles.
Karen Bass Slammed With Alleged Public Funds Mismanagement By Spencer Pratt

During his campaign, Pratt was confronted with criticism over his past lavish lifestyle when he ruled the TV screens. The activist reacted to the spreading allegations by clarifying that he should not be defined by his past, especially the choices he made when he was younger.
Recall that Pratt and his wife had admitted in the past that blowing through their $10 million net worth accumulated on “The Hills” was a result of severe immaturity and getting carried away by tabloid fame.
The reality star then turned the tide of the conversation by insisting that he has never spent money that did not belong to him, despite his infamous lifestyle.
He also accused Bass of allegedly using $400 million of taxpayers’ funds to house 1,400 people, while maintaining that he was never reckless with money and had used his wealth to uplift others. Pratt noted that LA residents have felt disillusioned and demoralized by Bass’s leadership, and they all want a change.
The MTV Alum Registered His Skepticism Towards Vote Counting

Days after updated results showed Raman overtaking Bass for the second spot, the reality star hopped on social media to give a sarcastic reaction, posting: “Are they done counting yet?” As noted by The Blast, the remark captured the media personality’s doubt about the counting process rather than an acceptance of the outcome.
Pratt had already expressed skepticism before the updated results, as additional ballots narrowed his path to the November election. The MTV alum repeatedly questioned how the standings changed so significantly, joking that he was trying to figure out how the vote count suddenly swung in Raman’s favor.
Despite the setback in the early June elections, Pratt continued to encourage his supporters to maintain positive energy as votes were still being counted and certification deadlines had not yet passed.
Pratt was not the only figure in his camp to react to the election results when counting was finally done; Trump, who had co-signed him earlier, also expressed doubts about the vote-counting process, which he claimed the Democrats benefited from heavily.
Spencer Pratt’s Suffered Another Personal Tragedy After Election Loss

The 42-year-old’s California crystal business was involved in a fire days after he came in third place in the election primary. Firefighters were promptly spotted at the location in Highlands Circle complex on Palisades Drive.
While no injuries were reported in the incident, investigations into the fire commenced, as Pratt insisted that some questions needed to be answered. The reality star tagged the outbreak suspicious, but noted that he will wait for investigations to make the details of their findings public before he says anything on the development.
Meanwhile, he later announced plans to team up with the mayor’s brother, Kenneth Bass, to sue Bass for her “reckless negligence,” which reportedly led to the destruction of several properties during the Palisades wildfire.
Kenneth had filed a claim against his sister in May, alleging that he suffered physical and emotional distress after losing his home in the fire.
