Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s expected return to the UK in July has reignited speculation about the state of the royal family’s relationships.

While the visit could provide an opportunity for the duke to reconnect with King Charles and introduce Archie and Lilibet to their grandfather, royal experts believe a reunion with Prince William remains highly unlikely.

Insiders suggest the brothers’ long-running rift is still far from resolved, despite signs of improving communication between Prince Harry and his father ahead of the Sussexes’ upcoming trip.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to return to the United Kingdom in July as preparations begin for the 2027 Invictus Games, but royal experts believe the visit is unlikely to result in a long-awaited reconciliation between Harry and Prince William.

According to royal commentator Dan Wakeford, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming visit may represent a “slight thaw and a good beginning” toward improving relations with some members of the royal family, but tensions with Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly as strong as ever.

Speaking about the planned trip, Wakeford suggested that while communication between Harry and King Charles may be improving, a meeting between the Duke of Sussex and his older brother is highly unlikely.

The royal expert told Fox News Digital that Harry’s focus is largely on strengthening ties between his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and their grandfather, King Charles.

Reports suggest the monarch is keen to spend more time with his grandchildren, whom he has seen only rarely since Harry and Meghan relocated to California after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.

Wakeford also alleged that Charles could play host to the Sussex family during their stay, further signaling a willingness to maintain a relationship despite years of public family tensions.

However, he described the situation with William and Kate very differently, suggesting there is currently little appetite within the Wales household for a private reconciliation.

According to Wakeford, any interaction between the brothers is “incredibly unlikely” outside of a formal public event, and even that remains uncertain.

“The king is the door that might open, but the Wales household is completely bolted shut right now,” he said. “[William’s] stance has not changed, and they would not arrange to see Harry and Meghan outside an official public engagement.”

The upcoming visit is also being viewed by some royal observers as a “test run” of how frequently Harry and Meghan may choose to return to Britain in the future.

The couple’s relationship with the UK has been complicated by long-running security concerns, with Harry previously expressing hesitation about bringing Meghan and their children to the country without adequate protection.

Despite speculation that Harry could reconnect with his father during the trip, experts remain doubtful that any progress will be made with William.

Royal commentator Amanda Matta described the brothers’ relationship as one of the “most strained” within the royal family,  and said there is little evidence that tensions have eased.

Matta also suggested that William’s evolving role as heir to the throne has influenced his approach, arguing that the Prince of Wales “is also seeking to project strength and leadership these days, which often results in press briefings that he has opposed the king’s handling of emotionally charged issues like Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and now, Harry’s potential return.”

Royal correspondent Emily Nash shared a similar view, saying she would be surprised if the brothers spent meaningful time together during Harry’s visit.

While she acknowledged they could potentially attend the same family gathering, she does not expect a private reconciliation.

Nash also suggested that Charles’ priority is likely to be reconnecting with Harry and potentially spending time with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, rather than acting as a mediator between his sons.

For her part, Matta argued that any real progress would require William’s approaching the situation “pragmatically rather than emotionally,” as he has reportedly struggled to move beyond what he views as Harry’s public criticism of the monarchy.

She added that a private meeting between the brothers would be a significant sign that communication channels were beginning to reopen.

Even so, both experts agreed that any reconciliation would likely be a gradual process rather than an overnight transformation. Years of tension, compounded by Harry’s memoir “Spare “and a series of public disagreements, have left the relationship deeply damaged, making a quick resolution appear unlikely.

New reports claim Harry is reassessing plans to bring his family to the UK after his request for his family to receive police protection was denied.

Sources who spoke with The Guardian noted that the Duke of Sussex has been left feeling “distraught” by the surprising development, as their “plans to see family, friends, and visit various charitable causes close to the duke’s heart have been pulled out from under their feet at the 11th hour.”

However, Harry is said to be looking “at every option” that he could use to safely bring his family to the UK and ensure their protection from the paparazzi.

“The hope is they can meet their grandfather, but there is no way that can happen if they are chased by paparazzi wherever they go from the moment they step off the plane,” an insider told the news outlet, adding that the duke “won’t put his children through that.”
