Kate Middleton has reached a major milestone in her charitable efforts. The Princess of Wales completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, hiking the highest peaks in England, Scotland, and Wales to raise awareness and support for cancer. The demanding feat highlights her continued commitment to causes close to her heart while inspiring others to get involved.
Kate Middleton Summited Three Peaks Within 24 Hours
On June 28, Kate Middleton shared a photo of herself decked in hiking gear and beaming at the peak of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland. As confirmed by the Palace, the Princess of Wales completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, which involves climbing the highest peaks of Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike), and Wales (Snowdon) within 24 hours. The entire walking distance of the challenge is 23 miles with an ascent of about 10,000 feet.
Kate took on the demanding challenge to raise cancer awareness and raise funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the foundation of the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, where she received treatment for cancer.
“Cancer doesn’t just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life. I know this personally, and that the journey through and beyond treatment requires more than medicine alone,” Kate noted, adding that she did the challenge to “explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back.”
The Princess Of Wales Did The Challenge Alone
Kate embarked on the challenge on her own but received support from Mountain Rescue to help ensure her safety throughout the demanding trek. At the end of her journey, she was met by Prince William and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis; as well as her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, and her brother, James.
In a short video, Kate explained her reason for doing the challenge, saying that it was partly personal. “I’m so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills. But, more importantly, it’s to give something back,” she shared.
The Duchess said conquering the challenge was also her way of contributing to The Royal Masden Cancer Charity. A webpage was set up for Kate’s cause, allowing supporters to make one-time or monthly contributions.
Kate Middleton Is In Remission From Cancer

In January 2024, it was announced that the Princess of Wales had undergone abdominal surgery. Her absence from public events following the announcement sparked speculations about her health, and in March that year, she revealed that cancer had been found during the surgery, but did not go further into detail about the specific type of cancer she was diagnosed with.
Admittedly, Kate said the diagnosis “came as a huge shock,” and her medical team advised her to undergo chemotherapy. In the months that followed, she gave updates about her health, telling the public that she was making good progress.
In January 2025, Kate took to social media and shared that the cancer was in remission. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead,” she said.
The Princess Of Wales On How Her Diagnosis Affected The Family

Kate has shaped her royal duties to center heavily on cancer advocacy following her diagnosis. In early June, she visited The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, where she spoke with cancer patient Claire Lorente, who was undergoing her final treatment for breast cancer.
The Princess of Wales enveloped Lorente in an emotional hug, saying, “Well done, you,” and offering words of encouragement. She also spoke with Lorente’s partner and told him, “I know it’s just as hard for families and loved ones. I know how hard it was for the children and my parents. You go through it with them,” Kate said.
In 2025, Prince William shared how he and Kate shared the cancer diagnosis with their three children, explaining that for the most part, “hiding stuff from them doesn’t work.” The couple took the time to explain Kate’s health to them, adding that they were open about their concerns and troubles, but also giving them the assurance that they needed.
Prince William Gave An Update On Kate’s Recovery

In an interview with “Heart Breakfast” in May, Prince William gave an emotional update about his wife’s recovery and had nothing but praise for Kate. He said Kate was “in good form” and had just been on a successful trip to Italy.
While Kate was eager to return to her royal duties, Prince William said they were working to strike a balance between her recovery and slowly easing back into her official responsibilities.
“She’s an amazing mom, an amazing wife, and literally, our family couldn’t cope without her. So, she’s been absolutely stunning, brilliant,” he shared.
