News of Zaire’s arrest quickly reached the NBA subreddit, where users wasted no time condemning the basketball player over the allegations.

“Man, Zaire has always been a dummy, but this is past just being stupid. I hope [the] victim makes a full recovery and gets the f–k away from her abuser,” someone wrote. Another user replied, “Yep, domestic violence isn’t a crime of stupidity. Drunk driving yeah that’s stupid, arrested with guns or drugs also stupid. Beating up your partner is just evil.”

Other users struggled to understand how the child of a mega-successful athlete could find themselves in a situation like this. “D-mn dude. D Wade is my favorite player of all time. Can’t imagine navigating this situation from the perspective of a father. Does D Wade cut off his money? … What do you even do, man?” a Redditor shared.

Another added, “How hard is it to stay out of this kind of trouble when your family has generational wealth? Lol.”

Zaire is Dwyane’s eldest child. The former Miami Heat player also has kids Zaya, 18, Xavier, 12, and Kaavia, 7. In a previous interview with “The Today Show,” the NBA champion opened up about fatherhood, specifically what he’s learned in the years between having his oldest and his youngest.

“When you don’t know nothing, just love,” he said. “You’ve got to feel love. You’ve got to feel support. And then we can work everything else out.”

Dwyane shares his youngest daughter with “Bring It On” actress Gabrielle Union, and in the interview, shared how he spends his time bonding with the youngin.

“We dance. We sing. We play Barbie all the time. We do all the princess things. I actually let her put makeup on me, whatever she wants to do. I’m that dad,” he said.

Later, Dwyane touched on his relationship with his middle child, Zaya, who came out as transgender when she was 12.

“I was blessed with Zaya [as a daughter], but I got Zaya at 12,” he said. “In terms of a father-daughter connection, I got that later with Zaya. But with Kaavia, it’s been from birth, and she’s so different than Zaya. It’s not even close.”

Union has also spoken publicly about the special bond she has with her stepdaughter, Zaya. According to a previous report from The Blast, the actress clapped back at critics who took issue with her support of the young model and activist.

“People talk about my parenting decisions. Loving my kid unapologetically out loud? Not putting someone out? The bar is on the d-mn floor,” Union said.

She went on to say that although she wasn’t sure how best to support Zaya at first, she “leaned into love,” allowing everything else to follow.

“There’s not a manual. I leaned into love and then asked questions—whether that be doctors, child psychologists, people who have lived experience—I’m leaning into that,” she said.
