Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s expected return to the UK with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet continues to raise eyebrows of royal observers.
As preparations continue for the 2027 Invictus Games countdown events in Birmingham, experts have offered differing explanations for the visit, with some linking it to the couple’s rumored struggles in Hollywood.
The trip could also open the door to a long-awaited family reunion between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and the senior royals, along with a possible visit to Princess Diana‘s ancestral home, Althorp.
Prince Harry And Meghan’s UK Trip Hints They Have ‘Run Out Of Ideas,’ Expert Reveals

Harry and Meghan’s reported plans to return to the UK with their children have sparked fresh debate among royal commentators, with one expert claiming the move reflects a growing need to reconnect with the institution they left behind.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to travel to Britain in July as part of celebrations marking one year until the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. The visit could also provide an opportunity for their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to spend time with members of the Royal Family.
Whether King Charles will meet his youngest grandchildren during the trip remains unclear. However, royal commentator Tom Sykes argued that the planned return highlights what he sees as “desperation and failure” facing the Sussexes.
Speaking on “The Royalist” podcast, Sykes suggested the couple had “run out of ideas, and their finances are basically in jeopardy,” before adding that “Meghan is someone who is desperate for fame.”
“She’s desperate for recognition,” the expert explained, per The Express. “She is desperate for money, of course, and status. And it just seems to her that a visit to the Royal Family in Britain would restore to her the credibility she once had.”
Prince Harry Misses England And Wants To Reconnect With Family, Royal Biographer Claims

Author and royal biographer Tom Bower offered a different interpretation, suggesting Harry’s motivations may be more personal.
He argued that the duke’s desire to return to Britain reflects a longing for his former life, his family connections, and the country where he grew up.
“He misses his roots, he misses England, and somehow wants to worm his way back into the affections not only of his own family, but of the British people,” he said.
Any reunion would be particularly significant given that Archie and Lilibet have not publicly been seen with Charles since Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
The visit would also mark a notable shift from Harry’s previous stance, as he has long cited security concerns as a major reason for not bringing his wife and children to Britain.
King Charles Reportedly Offered The Sussexes Royal Accommodation Ahead Of Expected UK Visit

Adding to speculation about the trip, reports suggest Charles has extended an olive branch by offering accommodation on a royal estate should the Sussexes choose to accept it.
According to reports, the monarch has made a standing invitation for Harry and his family to stay on royal property during their visit, although it remains unclear whether the offer has been accepted.
Charles has previously offered accommodation, including at Buckingham Palace, during Harry’s visits to the UK.
The issue of security, however, continues to loom over any travel plans. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have no longer been entitled to publicly funded police protection in Britain.
The Duke Of Sussex Was Adamant About Not Bring His Family To The UK Over Royal Security Drama

Harry has repeatedly argued that the decision to strip him and Meghan of their royal security makes it difficult to safely bring his family to the UK.
The Duke of Sussex has also unsuccessfully challenged the arrangements in court, a loss which he admitted left him feeling “devastated” and “pretty gutted” during an interview with the BBC, where he also called for a reconciliation with members of the royal family.
While no meeting between father and son has been confirmed yet for the duke’s latest visit, Harry and Charles have reunited during previous trips.
Their most recent reported meeting took place in September 2025 at the King’s London residence while Harry was in the country for WellChild and Invictus-related engagements.
Princess Diana’s Family Estate Emerges As Possible Stop During Harry And Meghan’s Family Visit To The UK

Meanwhile, attention has also turned to another location that could feature in the Sussexes’ itinerary: Althorp House, the Spencer family estate and final resting place of Princess Diana.
Speculation intensified after the estate announced it would be closed to visitors on July 10 and 11, dates that coincide with Harry’s expected stay in Britain. Located about an hour from Birmingham, Althorp remains one of the places most closely associated with Harry’s late mother.
Any visit would carry added emotional significance, coming just days after what would have been Diana’s birthday on July 1. Harry has stayed at the estate on previous trips to the UK, including a 2024 visit for the funeral of Lord Robert Fellowes, and it remains an important link to his mother’s legacy through its owner, Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer.
