Nope! Christina Ricci‘s ex-husband, James Heerdegen, did not get that Sunday mail!
The actress did not mince words in making her views on her current partner’s parenting skills clear when it comes to the kids, all while leaving her ex-husband out of the Father’s Day credits.
Christina Ricci and James Heerdegen parted ways in 2020 when the actress filed for divorce a few weeks after Los Angeles police dropped by their home following a domestic altercation, resulting in the actress being granted a protective order.
Christina Ricci Did Not Reserve Any Father’s Day Credit For James Heerdegen
The actress took to her Instagram to shower heartwarming praise on her husband and celebrity hairstylist on Father’s Day, June 21. She shared a picture of the hairstylist chilling on the floor with her two kids.
The picture was seemingly taken during the Christmas season, judging by the tree in the background and their Christmas-themed outfits. The post garnered over 8,000 likes and hundreds of comments as she accompanied a touching caption which read:
“Happy Father’s Day!!!!!! The best dad we could have ever hoped for. I honestly didn’t know they made them like you, babe. I am so grateful for you. We LOVE you so much.”
Ricci and Hampton found love in early 2021 during one of his celebrity hairstyling sessions, and things picked up from there with a surprise wedding that October and a newborn in December 2021.
The Actress’s Ex Lost Out On Emergency Custody Dispute Demands
On June 24, The Blast noted that Ricci’s custody battle with Heerdegen took a new turn after he approached the court for an emergency hearing over complaints made by their son, Freddie.
Heerdegen established in the court filing that their son had reached out to him during a June 16 trip to Canada with strong reservations and observations about his mother’s alcohol intake on the flight.
The Blast shared that following the concerns from Freddie, Heerdegen asked the court to prevail on Ricci and demand that she undergo alcohol testing.
However, Freddie’s court-appointed attorney pushed back on that version of events, insisting that the child had overreacted in the moment and that his description of Ricci’s drinking and behavior was exaggerated.
The lawyer continued that at no point on the journey did Freddie feel unsafe, nor did he carry any concerns about remaining in his mother’s care. A sum of all the accounts from the lawyer eventually led to the court denying Heerdegen’s request for alcohol testing.
Christina Ricci Said Custody Battle Is Hurting Her Hollywood Career
Ricci and Heerdegen’s latest legal brouhaha comes shortly after the actress filed a motion in court, stating that her interactions with her ex-husband in court have cast a negative shadow on her Hollywood career. Aside from the damage to her reputation, the actress also revealed that the case was making it difficult for her to assess job opportunities.
Alongside her complaints, she also requested permission from the court to take their son to New York for a work-related project. To support her request, Ricci provided text exchanges showing that Heerdegen initially appeared supportive of the trip.
However, she claimed his mind changed after her attorneys formally sent over a proposed agreement. According to Ricci, Heerdegen then became vindictive and refused to approve the travel request while accusing her of emotionally hurting their son.
The actress disputed the allegations from her producer ex-husband, describing his actions as vindictive and retaliatory, while arguing that he was more focused on targeting her than actually protecting Freddie, as he claimed.

Alongside the judge tossing out Heerdegen’s emergency request, they also granted Ricci her wish, ordering that the documents containing the conversation between Freddie and his dad be sealed.
As stated by PEOPLE, the actress noted that making them public may expose Freddie to a high degree of bullying while placing his mental health at optimal risk. Ricci and her ex-husband parted ways seven years after they got married in 2013, following their first-ever meeting on a movie set.
A year after making the divorce filing, Ricci sought a domestic violence restraining order from the court against Heerdegen following claims that she was subjected to severe emotional and physical abuse.
According to the media personality, most of the acts of abuse done by her ex-husband were carried out right in the presence of their son. However, Heerdegen’s attorney denied the allegations.
