The entertainer revealed that Jay-Z grew out his hair for over eight years to teach Blue Ivy about self-love and confidence. “I thought it was always beautiful that the real reason Jay grew out his hair was to show Blue that her hair was like his hair,” Beyoncé began.

She recalled that their oldest daughter was about five years old when she began feeling insecure about her natural hair. The singer continued, “When she told her father that, it inspired Jay to grow out his hair. We really wanted her to love and embrace every inch of her gorgeous curls.”

After growing out his hair and transforming it into locs and then long, thick wicks for eight years, Jay-Z decided it was time for a change. He combed out his locs using Beyoncé’s Cécred hair products, with his doting wife dubbing him the brand’s “most loyal customer.”

The entertainer explained in the video that Jay-Z decided to return to an afro in honor of his late father, Adnis Reeves. His father’s favorite team was the Philadelphia 76ers, and his signature hairstyle was an afro.

He told the reporter that out of all his hair transformations, his family loved him the most with locs. “Blue’s just going crazy. ‘No, Dad, you can’t cut your hair. It’s part of who you are,'” Jay-Z said of his oldest daughter’s reaction to him cutting his hair.

As for the youngest, the entertainer noted that Rumi was initially on his side before changing teams. Now, with no one in his corner, Jay-Z began contemplating whether or not to cut his hair because his favorite hairstyle remained the “money cut” or Caesar haircut, as seen in the video shared on Instagram.
