“Love Island USA” star Kaylor Martin has a theory about why dating feels harder than ever: people are overthinking everything. The reality TV personality recently partnered with Turtle Wax for its new “Car Icks” campaign, which explores how first impressions and vehicle upkeep play a role in modern dating. While discussing the survey findings, Kaylor Martin opened up about today’s dating culture, relationship red flags, and why effort still matters more than perfection.

Kaylor Martin Thinks Modern Dating Has Become Complicated

When asked about the current dating landscape, Martin admitted she believes many singles are getting caught up in searching for warning signs rather than focusing on genuine connections. “Honestly, I think people overthink everything now,” she told The Blast. “Everyone’s looking for red flags, green flags, yellow flags… all the flags. Dating can feel a lot sometimes.”

Despite the challenges, Martin believes most people ultimately want the same thing. “But at the end of the day, I still think people just want someone who shows up for you no matter what and puts the effort in,” she added.

The ‘Love Island’ Star Says Dating Apps Are A Double-Edged Sword

Martin also weighed in on the impact dating apps have had on relationships. While the reality TV personality acknowledged the platforms have made it easier to meet new people, she believes they’ve also created unrealistic expectations.

“I think both,” she said when asked whether dating apps have made relationships easier or harder. “They’ve definitely made it easier to meet people, especially people you probably never would’ve met otherwise.”

However, she believes endless options can sometimes work against meaningful connections. “I also think they’ve made people a little pickier because there’s always another profile to swipe on,” Martin explained. “I feel like sometimes people are looking for perfection when nobody’s perfect.”

According to the reality star, successful relationships still come down to the basics, telling The Blast, “At the end of the day, whether you meet on an app, in person, or even on reality TV, a relationship still comes down to trust, communication, and effort.”

Kaylor Martin Reveals The Biggest Red Flag People Ignore

As for relationship dealbreakers, Martin didn’t hesitate when naming the red flag she believes people overlook too often. “A red flag is inconsistency,” she said. “If someone’s words and actions aren’t matching up, pay attention to that.”

On the flip side, the reality TV personality thinks effort is one of the most underrated green flags in dating. “Remembering little things about someone, checking in on them, following through on what you say you’re going to do, that’s the stuff that actually matters.”

Martin believes those small acts of consideration can reveal a lot about a person’s character.

Why A Messy Car Gives Kaylor Martin The ‘Ick’

The conversation comes as Martin teams up with Turtle Wax’s new “Car Icks” campaign, which found that many singles judge potential partners based on the condition of their vehicles. According to the survey, which was sent to The Blast, 73% of respondents said the way someone takes care of their car reflects how they take care of themselves, while 67% believe a messy car signals a messy personal life.

For Martin, a cluttered vehicle is one of her biggest dating turnoffs. “I’m talking trash on the floor, old coffee cups, leftover food, crumbs shoved between the seats… all of that,” she told The Blast. “It’s not even really about the car itself, it’s about the effort behind it.”

The “Love Island” alum said she once went on a date where an old milkshake sitting in the car immediately caught her attention. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,'” she recalled. “Growing up around my dad’s dealership definitely made me pay attention to those things, and honestly I do think how someone takes care of their car reflects how they take care of themselves.”

Kaylor Martin Says Effort Is The Ultimate Green Flag

For Martin, it all comes back to the same thing: effort.

“Even something as simple as cleaning your car before picking someone up for a date shows you care,” she said. “It shows you thought about the other person, and people definitely notice that.”
