Describing her as an ally who took charge at a very tough period in her life by choosing to be mother to him, Collin added, “Happy birthday to my wonderful, hardworking, passionate, and I could go on… to my real mom. I love you so much. Also, I had to add a Rascal Flatts song, because we always sing Rascal Flatts songs together.”
Collin continued in the comment section that the love he feels for Colleen is incredible, despite the fact that there are no blood ties between them. He emphasized his gratitude for choosing her to be a part of his life, describing himself as fortunate and doubling down on the love he feels for her.

In another post, Collin revealed that for a long time, he was not sure if he was strong enough to tell his story because so many people watched his life unfold on television and felt they knew everything about his family.
He clarified that despite the idea that the public may know everything, there was so much going on behind the scenes that nobody had an inkling about. Collin added that he kept these painful experiences to himself for years due to fear and due to uncertainty that people may not believe them.
He also stated that it took him so long to break his silence because he simply was not ready, but settling down to write the book forced him to come face to face with some of his buried trauma.
According to him: “Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life, but it also gave me something I’ve been searching for for a long time: my voice. This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived.”
