Some WNBA fans are blasting league officials following Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream‘s recent contest against the Toronto Tempo. In the third quarter, Tempo player Isabelle “Izzy” Harrison was ejected after committing a flagrant 2 foul on her former Chicago Sky teammate. The interaction sent shockwaves through social media users and W fans—some of whom had no problem letting their frustrations be known.

Izzy Harrison Was Ejected From Recent WNBA Game Following Flagrant 2 Foul On Angel Reese

Yesterday’s game between the Tempo and the Dream started off with a bang, as Harrison and the rest of the Tempo came out of the gate swinging, recording 25 points in the first 10 minutes of action. Harrison was the Tempo’s leading scorer, finishing the night with 17 points before being ejected in the third quarter.

Harrison’s ejection came after she was called for a flagrant foul 2 on Reese just four minutes into the third quarter. Throughout the game, both athletes were seen battling it out in the paint. At an earlier point in the contest, Reese appeared to get under Harrison’s skin when she swatted the ball out of her hands after the whistle was blown during a play.

WNBA Viewers Are Slamming The League’s Officials, Claiming They Have A Bias Against Angel Reese

While some watchers believe Harrison’s actions on the court didn’t warrant her ejection, many others chimed in on the conversation, slamming the league’s officials and claiming they have a bias against Reese.

ESPN shared a clip of the intense moment on their official YouTube channel, prompting one user to write, “This is what happens when the refs don’t handle the game correctly from the jump.” (Their comment appears to be in relation to an earlier play where Reese was clearly fouled; however, officials ruled it a jumpball.)

Another user wrote, “When the refs allow players to pull, push, [and] slap [Reese] all game with no calls, [opposing players] think they can do whatever they want. They let it get to that point.”

Angel Reese Fans Are Slamming Officials And Harrison Following Her Ejection

The criticism toward WNBA officials didn’t stop there. On X, the reaction was the same, as one user called what occurred between Harrison and Reese “crazy.”

“We’re seeing the one person that brings the league millions in revenue from both excessive hate and a dedicated fanbase have a coach who has decided to NEVER speak up for her when she gets beat down every which way. Angel Reese does not deserve this, and no player does,” they continued.

Someone else added, “This isn’t an off-day for Angel Reese. There were at least 6 uncalled fouls where she’d have gone to the line. An off-day is multiple turnovers and a negative plus/minus, and there was none of that today.”

Other users also slammed Harrison, with one calling her a “f-cking bum” and several others saying she was “jealous” of Reese’s success and superstardom.

“I wanted to tweet this in the first half of the game, but I chose not to. Izzy did not play this game looking to win. She went out there intent on proving a point. Giving up layups because she refused to rotate off Angel so she could grab her or throw her body into her,” another user posted. “She put her beef before her team. On top of committing a dirty foul, she should be answering to her teammates for leaving them hanging. Problem is, most of them are going to tell her she was right. That’s how losers are built.”

Atlanta Dream Head Coach Under Fire For Response To Reese Foul

Reese fans were hoping Harrison’s flagrant foul on the Dream’s star player would prompt head coach Karl Smesko to speak up. However, his response has only caused more frustration.

“… Definitely it’s one of those situations where she’s going to be inside, she’s going to be physical, and sometimes not getting the calls, you know, have to manage it. You can’t control it, so you just gotta keep playing. I thought she [Reese] did that tonight, and I think that’s a large reason why she had such a great second half of the game,” he said, according to Jameelah Johnson, NBA reporter.

One user clapped back at Smesko, mentioning Reese’s rookie-year coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, saying she would’ve “spoke up for Angel.”

“Karl is not a good coach,” someone else wrote. “This is [not] physicality, this is targeting from players and the refs.”

Reese Gets The Last Laugh

Despite the drama, Reese finished the night with 15 points and 17 rebounds, helping power the Dream to a 102-77 win over the Tempo.

Her next game will be on June 18 against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever at 7:30 PM ET.
